Any Role Players? holla back

Journal Entry: Sun Feb 5, 2012, 7:51 AM

BAAWWWW I miss RPing. Who here RPs, and what is your poison of choice? I remember back when Yahoo! allowed people to create their own chat rooms, and there was always many devoted to RP... and, yes, some very seedy ones. I saw every kind of RP cliche possible back then. This was maybe... 10, 12 years ago? It was so nice to log in and have no idea what to expect! OH, how I love improvising.

The last great RP I had was an original story about serial killers. I got to play detective and I LOVED it. But my partner was very reserved (especially for a gruesome killer). I kept thinking how much more creatively sadistic I could write him :P..

A big hello to all my new watchers, and a big thank you to all my old ones. I've been really pleased to see that a few people are downloading my stuff - sometimes there are more downloads than comments! I'd like to think I'm doing something right if people wanna save it for later. But lol, it does make me think that maybe... my art is pretty to look at, but provokes no thought (discussion). Ah well, I do not mind.

As dear old Oscar said,
"It is better to be beautiful than to be good, but it is better to be good than to be ugly."

Art I've frigging loved lately:

The idea that BBC Sherlock turns to bee-keeping in a kind of passive-aggressive way makes me LOL so much. There have been a few top notch comics about it, but this one in particular cracked me up endlessly. The comments are a riot, too!

This shows the more tragic side to Harley/Joker, which I love seeing explored. I don't mind the fluffy stuff, but I think the real meat and potatoes of their romance is in the powerplay and mutual abuse that goes hand in hand with their fling.

What needs to be said about this one? Gorgeous pin up of dear Ivy.

Serial Killers - and my word, a fantastic authors note that links to many fantastic examples of related media for each killer.

Cheers!

Being fussy and Holmes trivia

Journal Entry: Wed Jan 25, 2012, 9:43 AM

Oh my word, the latest page of the Sewer King has been giving me hell. I had it all storyboarded, the 3d backgrounds made for each panel, the inking done on the lineart... but I just hated it. You know when you work so hard on something but just can't bring yourself to finish it? Totally that.

So I've scratched it a few times and come up with a design I like a lot more, which I'm inking now.

I was hesitant with the newest take, because it's VERY girly. It's the page where Johanna and Shylock first see each other and are introduced, I wanted it to be special and beautiful. It's very shoujo, though I hate using manga terms when I don't consider myself a manga artist, but the term just fits. Because they're genderswapped, there's a lot more femininity, their friendship is a lot more like that of two women, and when it comes to Johanna... well, Watson's admiration for Holmes abilities is clear in every version, and I believe that it would be very easy for the female Watson's admiration to delve into 'crush' territory.

My female Holmes has masculine qualities - not for 'slashing' purposes, I assue you. But in my dreams which inspired the whole concept, she was very strong, charismatic, with an over-powering presence and unconventional attitude. Couple that with being very tall for a woman, straight in stature, elegant and with feline grace, well... I daresay she makes an extremely interesting woman (one I would love to join on adventures!).

What's funny is that my early concepts for Shylock had a more prominant hawk nose, a very distinct profile, while everyone from my mother to casual friends said it looked like me. Totally unintentional! I want to talk more on my common traits with Sherlock Holmes (from manic depression to drug addiction), perhaps later. But as for this comic, if one were to accuse me of Mary Sueing myself into, look at Johanna Watson. I hope she can channel the hopes and desires of all my readers, not just myself, when it comes to the thrill of being Holme's right hand girl.

I'm putting together my first art/sketch book tentatively titled 'Galarie Rouge' or Red Gallery. The theme is, if you guessed, the colour red.

So pin ups with a common theme - red suits, red hair, red blood, anything.

I've got a pretty good collection of ladies and gents I want to draw, but I'm open to suggestions that may not be as obvious as others.

I'll post preview pics of content, so everyone can have a sneak peek ^_^.

It'll be available for both digital download plus traditional paper form.

I'm still open for commissions. $30 AUD for a full body, full colour character. Slightly less for bust shots, slightly more for two characters together. Pretty darn cheap, actually. You're paying for my new Catwoman boots, cats and kittens :P.

Thanks for stopping by! Let me hear your suggestions!

If anyone would like to help out, I'll be doing $30AUS commissions. That's $30 for a full body, full colour digital pic.

I'll draw bondage, nudity, normal pics, RP profiles, risque stuff.

Note me for any more info!

Gaaaame Faaaashion.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is just LUSH. I really, really love the design for the Hellequin in multiplayer. I'm so almost convinced to cosplay her. Her colour scheme is delish.

And why is it, whenever there's some game where people kill each other in spectacular ways, I want to ship them? And it's always femmeslash. What is with me and femmeslash, sheesh!

Any one have any Hellequin femmeslash ideas?

1.) I love drawing women and girls. I love femininity and the female body. It's nothing sexual, just total aesthetic adoration.

2.) I used to draw all my characters as animal people before I joined the internet and knew it was called 'furry' art. I draw a LOT of furry art commissions but I don't consider myself a fur.

3.)  Music inspires a lot of my art. I play songs to match what I'm drawing always.

4.)  I draw comics because I HAVE to, not because I think I'll be successfull at it.

5.) Most of my characters have blue eyes because I always thought I myself had blue eyes. Now my eyes are more cold green than blue, and I feel a bit put out. My heroines are blonde/blue eyes because I am a natural bright blonde, and had blues eyes as a child.

6.) I enjoy drawing noses.

7.) I wish I could write, but I seem incapable of paying attention long enough to ever write anything.

8.) I charge way less than I should for commissions. I have self esteem issues when it comes to the value of my work.

9.) I think lips are a vastly under-appreciated object in art. Too much anime influence in regards to ommitting lips.

10.) I can't draw angular, I draw curves.

First, you put a little advertisement right next to my toolbar, so I have to look at DA wear advertising every time I go to check anything here. I got a paid account to avoid this, but whatever. Put your little obnoxious reminder that there's more ways for me to pay, I'm an adult an can easily just *not* click and ignore it.

But now you've enlarged the click radius around it so that I can't use the search button, which not only limits pretty much 80% OF MY ACTIVITY on here, but forced me to click the link to the store.

Fuck. Off. I have a paid account, I just want to browse and upload art without being harrassed to buy shit. If I wanted to buy DAwear I'd have fucking bought it already.

So, why no art?

As some of you may know, I managed to get SWINE FLU a while ago. I was the one saying how statistically rare it was to catch it, let alone die from it. The universe is nothing if not partial to irony, and promptly smote me with it. Several weeks later, my lungs are still crappy, and I still have coughing fits.

Lesson: Don't tempt the irony gods, kids.

Also my laptop is slowly eating itself up like a paranoid cannibal. I've been unable to do any hi-res artwork as a consequence, so no comic work or commission work.

Plus uni has been giving me hell. Cognitive neuroscience is amazing and all, but sometimes I just want to read about freaks, not normal brains. Where is my bro Phineas Gage? Not in my textbooks, that's for sure.

Annd I've been diagnosed with more illnesses than I care to name, but suffice it to say, I may as well list 'shaking my fist impotently at the sky while cursing god' as a hobby by now.

I am looking forward to Gencon more than anything right now. A chance to relax, have fun, waste money, catch up with confriends and just step outside reality for a few days. Put on my mask, rejoin the circus.

"He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."
~ Nietzsche

... WAS AWESOME.

Finally a movie worthy of taking 'fave big budget explosions movie' award away from Last Action Hero!

Seldom are there movies that are fun, funny, constantly exciting and leave you hoping there's still another hour at least left to go. If GIJOE were 4 hours long, I'd still be wanting more hummer-destroying ass-kicking action and wit.

Snake Eyes is THE MAN. The dialogue was clever and never cringe-worthy. Cobra Commander provided some genuinely creepy moments - Destro, while charming, never failed to give an impression of power. The female characters were strong, intelligent and held their own against everything.

It was slick, stylish, eye-popping and just damn good fun.

While established GIJOE canon wasn't used, it's NOT a shameless translation just to get an action movie (like the travesty that was League of Extraordinary Gentlemen), it holds it's own as a GIJOE movie made by GIJOE fans, with many references and homages to both the toys, comics and cartoon.

Extra huge credit goes to Ray Park: Snake Eyes. The Silent Master was played to perfection, despite a really uncomfortable wardrobe. His scenes were all highlights and Park never failed to deliver his stunts with such grace and believability - you never once thought 'that's impossible'. You thought 'God damn Snake Eyes is fucking EPIC'. Towards the finale, as Snake Eyes *insert non-spoiler*.. well, he get's an idea. Someone actually said, very loudly, 'HOLY SHIT WHAT IS HE GONNA DO'.

There was never the thought that Snake Eyes would fail. I didn't hold my breath to see if he'd succeed... I held my breath to see just how the hell he'd accomplish it.

Ray Park, more than just playing the role to perfection, is also co-writing the Snake Eyes: Rise of Cobra origin story comic book. On top of this, he is constantly with Larry Hama - father of the JOEs. There aren't many actors who give such respect and attention to their roles like *this*.

So my biggest complaint? That Park is not listed on the poster. Snake Eyes is arguably the most recognisable GIJOE character, Park's image is on every single bit of merchandise, he not only performed all his own stunts but is actively writing his own backstory, and yet due to Hollywood politics he is deemed 'not important enough' to be listed on the poster.

A big FUCK YOU for using Park's talents without proper acknowledgment, and FIVE STARS for GIJOE: Rise of Cobra.

Updates!

The release date for STRANGE CASE #1 is still shrouded in mystery, as the book design is taking longer than I expected.

My favourite news all year: I'll be appearing onstage in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street playing the old beggar woman.

I'm incredibly excited and thankful for this opportunity.

If you live in the Brisbane area, please keep  July 10th, 11th, 17th and 18th free, and come see us perform. As part of the CentreStage cast, I've seen some phenomenal young talent. I'm amazed by how clever they are - it makes me a hundred times more thankful that I managed to scrape in! Please note me for address/time/ticket details.

On the costumes front, re-vamped Returns Catwoman is well underway. New corset, refitting the metal claws (they've really suffered wear damage), and new make up supplies have already been procured.

I've got two bustle dresses in the works for a surprise happy fun times duet with :iconkentrosaur: . Still pattern and material searching, but I've got my eye on a few! (Yes, Lanah, we ARE doing it! I have no idea where or when, but we're doing it!).

Lately, my costuming has been put into a new perspective. I'm over the politics of cosplay, seriously. I don't even like calling my hobby 'cosplay', because of all the meta attached to that title. I make costumes of characters I love, not because I want to please others but because I want to please myself.

I could rant endlessly about cosplay bullshit, but I'll end there :P.

Happy Winter holidays, everyone!

Or 'the films I should have already seen, what with being a film buff and all'.

I do think myself a film buff, or at least a snob when it comes to movies. I got my snob groove on a few weeks ago, when Brisbane hosted the Be Afraid exhibit - the most influential American horror movies. Played in an ART GALLERY *snobs out*. I saw Evil Dead in an art gallery, ya'll!

So now when my mother (chief proponent of the 'that movie is trash and horrible!' movement in my life) says, in her lovely accent, 'how can you watch this, it's disgusting!', I can cheer up and say 'Well I've seen it in Art Gallery, Mother, it's Art' (Note to self: find a way to verbally portray capital letters at the start of every word).

Movies I get all elitist over seeing on the big screen:

A Nightmare on Elm St
Alien (twice - not the re-release either!)
Aliens
Evil Dead
Friday the 13th
Halloween
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Jaws
The Blob
The fly
The Thing
Psycho (probably my biggest film snobbery achievement)

There's a lot of fatal flaws in my movie snobbery. Such as being able to wax lyrical about everything Quentin Tarantino puts on film, but not remembering that Stanley Kubrick did Dr Strangelove (oops). Or that I haven't seen a single Martin Scorsese film (double oops).

Today's To Do list:

Full Metal Jacket
Cape Fear

I saw A clockwork Orange last night (at 2am, go me) and it's now in my top 5 favourite movies ever. I think it bumped Alien: Resurrection off.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go buy fake lashes, fake eyeballs and a Derby hat for my Alex DeLarge outfit for tonight's Undead Ball.

RIGHT RIGHT.
