Description

Character I did with the intention of using for the cover of my art book. Probably going to go with something else, but damn if this didn't turn out gorgeous anyway!

I really tried to illustrate the differences between Shylock and Johanna with this one. Shy is very tall, slim, long, strong, arched, regal and elegant. Johanna is very soft, round, curvy, light, bent, curled in, crooked and plump.

Shylock's body type is ectomorph (thin) with a wee bit of mesomorph (strong). She's very tall and slim with delicate bone structure, but broader shoulders and powerful legs. Johanna is endomorph (fat/heavy) BUT she has lost a LOT of weight from illness AND wears corsets routinely. I should probably try drawing an artistic nude of her so you can see just how interesting her body is... it really tells a story. From scars to dramatic weight loss and muscle tone. Poor thing really is very crooked and all over the place.

Shylock continues to wear adapted Victorian era clothing. My comic isn't set in a strict historical time frame so it's all good, but still to say - in canon, Shylock still dresses 'strangely'. She and Merry (Mercroft, the infamous older sister) both have their clothing tailored from their own designs by a very eccentric family friend. Johanna wears what is, in canon, considered acceptable 'sporting' dress: aka short finery for women who go about business. Usually worn with thick stockings which I incorrectly coloured as flesh tone >_> ahaha.

Johanna's usually styled after 1870s gear (considered out of date in canon) but this one is based on a dress I wore in an Oscar Wilde production. I played the venomous Lady Plymdale in Lady Winderemere's Fan and had a super cool green style jacket and dress. It was a weird mix of 1870's and Edwardian. Rich green with black lace, and it kept cutting into my boobs something fierce. We had to take it out to fit me, then I got the flu and lost so much weight that we had to take it back in again. I broke a fan by hitting someone with it during a show. Good times, that play!

Catgirl Shylock Holmes and mousegirl Johanna Watson are from my weirdo adaptation of the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. To see more, please check out my gallery :D.

That's definitely an interesting spin on Holmes and Watson.
